Cameroon's electricity generation segment is characterized by the presence of several power plants. Electricity is produced from different primary energy sources, including hydraulic and thermal (natural gas, diesel, heavy fuel oil).

The production facilities include production units serving the South Interconnected Network (RIS), the North Interconnected Network (RIN) and isolated power plants (There were 25 isolated power plants in 2017 (ARSEL Activity Report, 2017)).

[1] The city of Kousseri has been connected to the North interconnected network since the commissioning of the 30 kV line between Waza and Kousseri in November 2011.

[2] Plant built to operate with HFO but following an incident in April 2012, the plant is currently operating with LFO.

[3] The Ahala plant is a plant leased from the British company Aggreko but the process of acquisition by the State of Cameroon is underway.

[4] The construction of a new spillway in 2010 and the renovation of the Edéa 3 power plant increased the power plant's capacity by around 16MW.
